ANBERNIC RG35XX V2

Been super impressed by just how powerful the RG35XX Plus is. Been great to play all sorts of games from various platforms up to the Dreamcast of all things!

Only issue so far has been the sleep function being slightly inconsistent and the Bluetooth pairing hasn't worked smoothly so far.

While I don't consider myself a purist, I would say that I'm pickier than the average joe who just wants to play Mario on the go. I try to play on real hardware whenever I can, I recently moved to the UK so I had to leave a lot of my retro stuff behind. I still have my GBA and Dreamcast, but my NES, SNES, Mega Drive, PSX, all that couldn't come with me. The RG35XX appealed to me because it can emulate those systems flawlessly, and it can do that while being in the form factor of a slightly smaller Game Boy Pocket (which is my favorite GB revision).

If it's so great then, why only 4 stars? Well, this isn't really the devices fault, but there's a few things new buyers should know, specifically people who plan on tinkering with this thing to get it just right.
1. The stock OS is bad, stretches' games and doesn't run well overall. This can be remedied by GarlicOS or MinUI, but...
2. GarlicOS doesn't seem to work on the most recent motherboard revision, it doesn't work on mine and I bought from DroiX FYI. MinUI works great, but doesn't give you as many options as Garlic does, which
is a bummer for someone who has goldilocks syndrome when it comes to emulation lol.
3. Don't use any other charging cable besides the one it comes with, Chinese products are known for having power issues, it even says on the back of the system "Only use certified charger, the battery may explode in a fire".
The device doesn't come with its own power brick, but going off of what others have said online, you'll want a 5.0 V 1.0, I had a basic Amazon one which seems to fit that description, but again, your mileage may very, just be careful and do your research.

All-in-all, it's a great device, love the form factor, the buttons feel good to mash, beautiful screen, and it plays pretty much anything 8 bit to some 32 bit I've thrown at it. I recommend it for those who want to play Game Boy and GBC and don't wanna shell out 200 quid for a modded IPS GBC.

I've been on the lookout for a device to primarily play Gameboy games on and having read a lot of review finally settled on this one. I'm glad I did too, the build quality and overall feel of this thing is wonderful. The screen is incredible for the money, super bright with great colours, and all the controls feel great. It is perhaps on the smaller side so if you have larger hands like myself this unit may not be for you, but I've found it to be pretty comfortable regardless.

The software is going to be the biggest hurdle for most people. It came with SD card which was a nice surprise and if you just want something to pick up and play you'll be good to go, but if you want to change anything there's a bit of a learning curve. If you have experience with RetroPie or similar stuff you're probably okay but for newcomers I would maybe suggest looking into an Android based device over this.

That being said I've enjoyed tinkering with mine to get everything set up. I would highly recommend sticking with GarlicOS, not only does it have a huge list of supported emulators, extra software, and a plethora of customisation options, but it seems to run games better than the default OS.

Overall very happy with it, it's fits in perfectly as an addition to my other retro gaming machines and has been a joy to use so far. If you've been looking for a way to revisit some classic Gameboy games, this certainly hits the mark.

Nice device, stock software is ok. Luckily Garlic OS improves it. Has lots of potential. Pretty happy with my purchase. Droix dispatched and delivered quickly also.
