ANBERNIC RG552 Retro Gaming Handheld

Seems to be running Dreamcast, Saturn and pretty much all psp like a dream, android is okay, but just easier with the Linux OS. Reliving some great old psp games.

I bought this as it has a larger screen than my Anbernic RG 351P and was surprised at how much bigger the RG 552 is with it dwarfing my Sony X11 Smart Phone.
The sound quality and graphics on the RG 552 are different class and the battery on full charge lasts about 6 hours.
The 64gb Droix TF card has some great stuff on it but hopefully a larger capacity one is in the offing with even more emulators.
I have not yet used the Linux or Android Apps on this device but I am very pleased with my purchase.
Droix delivered my order next day and I have been a happy customer with them for years.

Absolutely loving the handheld, and if you accept the Ayn Odin is still only shipping slowly to backers, probably the best available in this format.
The screen is something to behold and having touch screen and the choice of Linux or Android (touch screen is essential for the latter) is a game changer - pardon the pun! Surprised at the improvement in performance, better than I expected and most Youtube reviews give it credit for, Dreamcast is now very playable. Comfortable in the hand but you will notice the weight difference and the two grip pads on the back could be bigger as it is quite slippery in the black finish. My only gripe is that says after I bought it Droix dropped the price by £25.00 and that stung a bit. Having said that I have just ordered my third handheld from Droix and their service has always been first class. Definitely going to be my large handheld of choice, the Odin may change that but mine still looks like its two months away and I predict some nice bespoke software OS arriving for the RG552 before then.

The Anbernic RG552 has a great screen and is perfect for playing Gameboy Advance games. It has a nice weight to it and the controls are top notch. Custom firmware is also available for it which improves the experience.

just i am saying to super.

plays games very well. everything you could want, even pretty good on a lot of n64 and pop and dreamcast. ready to go out of the box which was nice.

Pros:
- Gorgeous display
- Nice, speedy interface
- Custom firmware options are fantastic

Cons:
- A bit overpriced given it's not much more powerful than 351 systems
- Occasional small pop sound from speakers after system comes out of sleep (easily fixed with a restart, thankfully)
- Battery life isn't great

For someone who just wants the best display for S/NES and GBA and similar systems, it's fantastic and can recommend installing one of the custom firmwares (AmberElec, JELOS) to optimize everything. N64, PSP and DS will work generally very well on the Android side, though don't hold out hope for 3DS or PS2 ever being playable on this thing. Pro-tip: You need to take the main micro SD card to use Android, so make sure to keep your micro SD in a case to avoid losing it!

Excellent service once again (2nd purchase) via Driox. 1st purchase was the RG351 that is excellent but I just wanted a bigger screen and better N64/DC/Saturn performance. In the RG552 here it is. With output to TV amongst other improvements, here is the Retro ‘Switch’ I wanted. If, like me you are willing to put some time in with the settings/upgrades that will come via the retro gaming community then you won’t be disappointed. I’ve had it 2 weeks, hardly scratched the surface of its capabilities but already very impressed and looking forward to fine tuning my gaming experience.

Whilst I’ve not had much use out of it yet, it is a lovely piece of kit. I’m coming from a Powkiddy Q90 and the hardware is such a huge step up and the screen is amazing. I’ve mostly been using the Linux side at present, mostly because I’m hopeless setting up retroarch, and everything works great. I did install some play store games I own that support controllers (Dead Cells being one) and they played brilliantly.
It isn’t the cheapest handheld but I originally bought my self a cheap handheld to see how I’d get on with these systems before going for a more premium device. If I’ve got to give a negative, as I chew my nails, getting the sd cards in and out is a pain.
Got this in the sale and it arrived quickly and well packaged.

I fell out of love with gaming many years ago but was a massive gamer growing up in the 8-bit/16-bit era.
To try and rekindle my childhood I recently purchased an Anbernic RG350.

My son loves his gaming but is too young to have experienced the games that I grew up with. He has been playing with the RG350 and loved it.

He was 18 last week so I decided to purchase him the Anbernic RG552, literally minutes after ordering it I had size envy so decided I wanted one too. I jumped straight back onto the site and ordered another.

I very quickly (within 30 minutes) got an email from droix querying if I had meant to order 2. This was the first sign to me this was a company to be trusted. I’ve dealt with companies who would have just taken the money and argued it was my mistake so it’s tough.
I confirmed I wanted both devices so they immediately told me they would refund my postage for one of the orders and ship them both together.
Next day I received them both very well packed.

Opened them up and to my disappointment one of the consoles was faulty (loose cooling fan rattling around inside) so needed to be returned.

I got onto the online chat with customer service who immediately sent me an RMA number along with a postage label to return the faulty console at no cost to me.

I sent it back the same day and awaited a response.

Using tracking I could see it was delivered back to them on Friday morning. So come Friday lunchtime i decided to enquire on timescales (the email from droix regarding the RMA stated it would take UPTO 7 working days to process a replacement, but I’m not well known for my patience!)

I rang them and explained the situation and a really helpful chap (didn’t catch his name) asked me for the RMA number which I gave him and he told me funnily enough he had it in front of him. He opened it up examined it with me on the phone and agreed it was faulty and needed to be replaced. He told me he would send out a replacement which I would receive the next day which was Saturday.

I had the email containing tracking details within 5 minutes of ending the call and the replacement was delivered by 930am the next day.

If you’re in the least bit worried about dealing with independent companies who you have no experience of let me assure you this company are amazing. Look up customer service in the dictionary and it will say droix.
